Second round of three- day training workshop on Election Reporting for working journalists by Walter Cronkite School of Journalism (Arizona State University, USA) and Media Foundation 360 was held from 9th till 11th January at Marriott Hotel in Islamabad. 25 participants from Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkwha attended the session and learned new tools that can be used during election coverage. The training session was interactive where participants also presented their ideas and had discussion.
The topics included coverage on election day, voters’ dynamics, campaign politics in Pakistan, web & social analytics, Google tools, fact checking and data reporting. Three trainers from Walter Cronkite School of Journalism included Dr Bill Silcock (Director Cronkite Global initiatives and Curator Hubert Humphrey Fellows Program), Jason Manning and Theresa Poulson (Professors of Practice, Walter Cronkite School of Journalism). Several senior journalists from Islamabad, including Hassan Khan, Abdul Qayyum Siddiqui and Abdul Sattar Khan, were also invited, who particularly discussed the importance of social media in election coverage and data collection. Certificates were also distributed among the participant at the end of the last day.
